Title: Dog Psychologists??
Post by Ice-P on Dec 13th, 2007 at 2:05pm
They actually have dog psychologists now. I tried it, but I think that if your problems are serious you’d be better off to go and spend the extra cash and talk to a human. That was the first time I’ve been to see a therapist, but I have watched a lot of “The Bob Newhart Show” and I just don’t think a well trained therapist would spend the entire session trying to hump your leg. It seems unethical.

I was burning sticks in the back yard today and my two dogs thought it would be fun to fetch sticks.  Since there are a million sticks back there, there was no problem UNTIL they started pulling them out of the fire and carrying them through the dry leaves, dragging the burning end.  I discovered that you need to stop the dogs BEFORE you try to put out the little fires.  Then beat the fire with a shovel.  Then beat the dogs with a shovel.  Screaming just makes them run faster and spread the fire even further.

Actually, it was just one dog.  The other dog started to pick up a burning stick but was startled by my screaming and waving a shovel.  He thought it was a fun new game and went to chase the other dog, too.

All my money is going into my church.  Then I'll run for county office.  I'll keep running till people get sick of me and put me in office.  Then, I overthrow the government and take over.

Or, I may just stay home and mow the yard.  Whichever is easier.

Why mow?  Just give your dogs some more sticks on fire.  :)

My back yard is FULL of trees and a lot of dry leaves that fell after I was done mowing.  If my yard catches fire, it would wipe out Mounds and Pulaski (depending on the wind).  AND, my wife would probably be mad if I burned the house down.  She's funny that way.

My wife is Irish and has the temper to match.  Fortunately, St. Patrick's Day is coming up so I can take her out for a traditional 7 course Irish meal.

A boiled potato and a six-pack of beer.

p.s.  Please don't kill me honey, it was just a joke.

Does anyone out there know that Cairo has a animal rescue group called CARE. We are a small group, but have accomplished a lot. As of this date, over 80 dogs and puppies have been placed in foster homes and put up for adoption. When the city gets dogs, they are driven over th Dr. Coffee's clinic and put down.  They DO NOT cooperate with us, and have told us to stay away from their so-called dog shelter.  This is after we tried to work with the city, buy dog food, etc. This past week I recieved a call from the county saying that soneone had passed away in Klondike and left four dogs (unapproachable) in their yard. Neighbors were feeding them, but couldn't keep it up.  The city was called and said they couldn't help us (they're broke, remember?) We called the county and they said they were broke, too. So now I guess four dogs will starve to death in Klondike because noone seems to be interested in them. This is a sad state of affairs. But the city officials just keep on collecting those checks...SHAME ON YOU >:( >:( >:( >:(

Good reason not to use Coffee’s Clinic in LaCenter.  I don’t trust a vet whose answer to animal control is to put them asleep.  You’d think they would want the city to work with CARE.  >:(

Klondike is NOT in Cairo, so I can see why they don't want to mess with them.  It would just cost them money.  The County needs to take some responsibility for the dog problems in unincorporated areas.  Or the owners, or their heirs, should be responsible for their animals.  They were somebody's pets and someone should be taking care of them.  Someone gets the estate and they are the new owners of 4 dogs.  Even if they have them put "to sleep", it's better than letting them starve.

It's not the clinic, it's the City that doesn't want to work with CARE.  The clinic just does what you pay them to do.  They don't rescue, they just take care of what you bring them.  If no one wants the animals, they are better off euthanized.  My problem is that someone MAY WANT an animal and never get the chance to rescue it.

The Alexander County Board of Commissioners does have the responsibility to control animals. It is mandated by Illinois Statute and
I believe you can pull it up under "Illinois Animal Control Act. But, it is true they are broke, meaning no moolah in the till to pay bills that just keep accumulating. Until they come up with a solution to stop the accumulation of additional bills they will never match revenue with the outgo.

Somebody owns those dogs.  THEY (or their heirs) should be responsible.  If they were just running loose, then the county bears the blame.

Do you really think someone from Klondike would leave money to take care of their dogs?  Their family probably had to find the money to bury them.

They got a house or furniture or even just a bunch of home furnishings.  Let them sell them and take care of her estate (including the dogs).  If they don't have the money, then ask the county to help.  Dogs and cats are considered property.
